Women snore too - and just as loudly

It is long been assumed that snoring is a man's problem. But a new study finds that women snore too and often do not own up to it. And even when they do admit to snoring, they insist, incorrectly, that theirs is not as loud as men's.

Researchers studying nearly 2,000 patients who came into a lab for sleep studies found that nearly 40% of women who declared themselves to be non-snorers turned out to have severe or very severe snoring intensity, according to the study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.

Snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea, which increases a person's risk for serious conditions including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke.

Tropical forest the size of England destroyed in 2018

Image for illustration only

Last year, humanity destroyed an expanse of tropical forest nearly the size of England, the third largest decline since global satellite data became available in 2001, researchers reported yesterday.

The pace of the loss is staggering - the equivalent of 30 football fields disappearing every minute of every day, or 12 million hectares a year.

"For the first time, we can distinguish tree cover loss within undisturbed natural rainforests, which contain trees that can be hundreds, even thousands, of years old," said team manager Mikaela Weisse.

Despite a slew of counter-measures at both the national and international level, deforestation has continued largely unabated since the beginning of the century.

'Plogging' craze goes global as fitness fanatics take out the trash

The Swedish phenomenon of "plogging", where joggers combine their run with picking up the trash they find in nature, is going global as both environment and fitness fanatics benefit from the new trend.

Started in 2016 by Swede Erik Ahlstrom in the town of Are, which hosted the recent Alpine skiing world championships, the craze is now spreading around the world.

"The world record is actually in Mexico City, four thousand people have been plogging in one day, but I think it's about 10 thousand people doing it regularly in India. In India, the biggest trend for running, it's plogging right now," Ahlstrom told Reuters at a recent plogging event in Stockholm.

In Swedish 'plocka' is pick, and then jog of course. It's a combination word, it's two words put together - pick and jog.

Game of Thrones actor has been sexually assaulted repeatedly by ‘Game Of Thrones’ fans

Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick in Game Of Thrones, has opened up about being sexually assaulted by fans of the show on a repeated basis.

“I’ve been grabbed by so many… like the amount of like older, older women who are very…” at this point he then made a grabbing gesture.

“What can you do? You know? Obviously tell them not to do it. It hasn’t happened for a while. In this day and age you’d think that people would be able to separate reality from fiction.”

Said a fan Nashi:
This is one sick society when they could not differentiate between Reality and Fictional situation. If this had been a girl instead of a guy, imagined the outrage and the media frenzy over the scandalous acts of these fans. "Me Too" marches would explode over the TV screens...

My 2 cents:
This is one reason why male and female actors will not have the same pay yet.

In the music world, male and female artistes know who has the biggest fan base will earn the most money. That is why they strip, show their boobs, swear and use foul languages, etc. Even Dolly Parton makes jokes about her boobs occasionally.

In the movie world, the actors have a bigger fan base because they please their fans with their bare chest, nice body shape, naked bodies and they make jokes. I do not know who the actresses please. Definitely not the fans. There seems to be a line between the actresses and the fans.

Pain during sex? Incontinence or constipation? You might benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy

"How did I not know this was a pelvic floor issue? Why didn't my doctor send me here sooner? Do you have other patients with problems like mine?"

As a physiotherapist, I hear these questions again and again, from people of all ages and genders, who are struggling with issues related to the urinary system, sexual function and the lower digestive tract.

From pain during sexual intercourse to urinary incontinence after surgery for prostate cancer, to anal incontinence after pregnancy, physiotherapy can help.

In pelvic floor physiotherapy, patients learn exercises, and they may receive manual treatments, biofeedback and/or electrical stimulation. Biofeedback displays pelvic floor activity on a computer screen, making it easier to contract and relax muscles that are usually hidden from view. Electrical stimulation causes a pain-free muscle contraction, with the goal of improving the ability to contract and relax naturally.
