Woman suffers from severe heart failure after consuming illegal weight loss product

A woman now suffers from severe heart failure after she consumed a weight loss product that contains an undeclared banned substance, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said on Monday (Jun 3).

The product, marketed as BB Body, is one of four products that have caused "serious adverse reactions" in consumers, and members of the public are advised not to purchase or consume the products, HSA said.

The other affected products are Bello Smaze and Choco Fit which were both also marketed as weight loss products, as well as Seahorse Chop Du Zhong Ba Ji Wan which contains a potent steroid.

Hundreds of F&B outlets in Singapore to stop providing straws

By July 1, over 270 food and beverage (F&B) outlets in Singapore will remove straws completely from their premises or provide them only on request.

These include cafes and eateries such as Nando’s Singapore, Pastamania, A Poke Theory  and Bettr Barista as well as those run by Spa Esprit Group which include Tiong Bahru Bakery and Open Farm Community.

A recent survey found that 62% of people in Singapore use plastic straws only because they come with a purchased drink, it added.

Heatwave in India passes 50 deg C (122 deg F)

Temperatures passed 50 deg C in northern India as an unrelenting heatwave triggered warnings of water shortages and heatstroke.

The thermometer hit 50.6 deg C in the Rajasthan desert city of Churu on Saturday, the weather department said.

All of Rajasthan suffered in severe heat with several cities hitting maximum temperatures above 47 deg C.

The Indian Meteorological Department said severe heat could stay for up to a week across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
